Sony Tablet S Review

The Sony Tablet S is a new tablet device that’s about the size of an iPad. It has Android 3.1 Honeycomb operating system, making it fast and without lag time. One minor setback is that it doesn’t have a mobile broadband system, meaning you need Wi-fi to connect to the internet. If your looking for the best deals on tablets, this Sony Tablet S review.

Features

The features of this device make it both fun and practical. Practical features include tabbed browsing, video chat, Google Talk and more. Plus, it doubles as a universal remote, so you can control your TV, disc player and more. There are even more impressive apps are available from the Android marketplace.

Other features that should be mentioned in this Sony Tablet S review include access to Video Unlimited, Sony eBooks app and the Reader Store, The Sony Entertainment Pack, and Music Unlimited. You can also stream content to a variety of TV’s and other devices, much like Apples’ AirPlay feature found on iOS devices.

Hardware

The Sony Tablet S is sturdy, well-built and lightweight. It is powered by the dual-core, 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and offers nice memory options at either 16 GB or 32 GB, priced at $399 and $498, respectively. The extra $100 for twice the memory is definitely worth it. There is also 1 GB of internal memory, which helps with the speed, but is a big help with extra space for media.

The 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi is easy to use and fast, so you have the latest wireless technology, along with Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. However, there’s no 3G or 4G internet available, which is a little unusual. Some people may see this as a problem, but some people see it as a plus to not have to deal with a mobile service and the price for the plans.

I/O ports include a headphone jack, a Micro USB port and a USB card reader. You can easily transfer data to and from an SD card in the slot, thanks to an app included in the factory preset. This Sony Tablet S review on the hardware shows that the device is equipped for anything you need to do as long as you have an internet connection.

Display

The display of the Sony Tablet S makes videos and photos look great, but seems slightly dimmer than most other tablets. This tablet uses Sony's TruBlack technology, which gives the Sony Tablet S an extra edge in image quality. The resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels, so it’s better than 720p high definition resolution. The 9.4 inch tall display is close to the edge of the device which makes it feel like your getting the most out of the touch screens’ space.

Ease of Use

The Sony Tablet S has a great operating system, making it fast enough to keep up with whatever your doing without lagging. It is very responsive in its internet browser as long as you have a good internet connection, but like most devices, if the internet connection is slow, so will be the device. Outside of the browser, the device has great speed and great responsiveness.

Summary

With its fast operating system, amazing responsiveness, and small but easy to use size, it is an amazing device. Although it is a little pricey and has no mobile broadband available, as long as you have a WiFi connection, you can download all the apps you need within one visit to a coffee shop, and have everything you need to stay entertained and enjoy your new Sony Tablet S. It is both fun and easy to use, and will not disappoint, whether you have had several tablets before, or just experiencing this new technology.
